March 2026 Tax Calendar: Key Dates for Individuals and Service Workers

We are officially in the homestretch. With the April filing deadline looming just one month away, March is the pivotal month to organize your documentation, communicate with your employer, and secure your spot on our calendar. At True Tax Strategies LLC, we believe in avoiding surprises—whether you are a single parent working for tips or a business owner managing complex filings.

Here are the specific dates you need to watch for this month.

March 10: Reporting Tips to Your Employer

For our clients in the service industry—waitstaff, bartenders, salon professionals, and gig workers—this is a recurring but critical deadline. If you received more than $20 in tips during February, the IRS requires you to report that income to your employer by March 10.

You can fulfill this requirement using IRS Form 4070. Alternatively, a simple written statement works as long as it includes:

  • Your signature
  • Your name, address, and Social Security number
  • Your employer’s name and address
  • The specific month or period covered
  • The total amount of tips received

Why this matters: Your employer uses this report to withhold the correct FICA and income taxes from your regular paycheck. If you underreport now, or if your regular wages aren't high enough to cover the withholding, your employer will report the uncollected tax in box 8 of your W-2. This often leads to a surprising tax bill—and potential penalties—when you file your annual return. We want to help you keep that money in your pocket, not hand it back in penalties later.

March 16: The "Soft Deadline" for Appointments

April 15 is the official deadline, but March 16 is the practical one. We are exactly one month out from the individual income tax due date. If you haven't scheduled your tax preparation appointment with us yet, we strongly encourage you to do so now.

Our calendar fills up rapidly this time of year. Booking now ensures we have the time to dedicate to your specific situation, whether that involves maximizing family tax credits or strategizing for your small business.

Missing Documents? Book Anyway.

A common mistake we see is clients waiting until they have 100% of their paperwork before calling us. Please do not let a missing 1099 or a misplaced receipt delay you. It is much more efficient to meet with us, get the bulk of the return entered, and create a targeted list of missing items.

Once those final documents arrive, you can simply forward them to us to cross the finish line.

The Strategic Extension

If you suspect you won't be ready to file by April, we should still talk this month. Remember, an extension to file is not an extension to pay. We can prepare a preliminary return to estimate your tax liability. This allows you to make a payment by the April deadline, minimizing interest and penalties, while we handle the extension paperwork for you.

A Note on Timing and Extensions

Weekends & Holidays
Per IRS rules, if a due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the deadline is automatically pushed to the next business day.

Disaster Area Relief
We know that life happens. If you live in or have a business in a federally designated disaster area, the IRS often provides automatic extensions. To check if your area qualifies for relief, please consult the official resources below:

At True Tax Strategies LLC, we are here to help you navigate this season with precision and care. Whether you are looking to maximize your refund or optimize your business tax strategy, let's get you on the schedule before the rush.
